Mom, Sister Procure Daughter for Brother-in-Law

SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Sept. 30, 2000--Santa Cruz County
sheriff's deputies have arrested the mother and the aunt of a 13-year-old girl
and charged them with encouraging the child to have sex with her 27-year-old
uncle.
Investigators are seeking the uncle, Florentino Lopez, of Watsonville, so they
can file child-molestation charges against him.
Booked into county jail on charges of procuring a child for lewd and lascivious
acts were the girl's mother, Julia Lopez, 28, and the child's aunt, Eucebia
Lopez, 22.
Sheriff's Sgt. Craig Wilson said the man they were seeking was married to the
child's aunt. According to Wilson, the child told officers that her mother and
her aunt forced her to have sexual relations with her uncle beginning in 1999
and continuing until this August.
At that time, the county Child Protective Services agency took the girl from
the apartment where she lived with her mother, her aunt and uncle and four
younger children. The uncle moved out at that time, Wilson said, and his
whereabouts are unknown.
The mother and aunt were arrested on Thursday.
Deputies removed the other children from the home and turned them over to
protective services for placement in foster homes.
