[sadwank] The Spanking Adventures, featuring Mel and Others in 'Terror of the Vervoids' 
Mel always strikes me as a breeze to put in a spanking situation, possibly 
because the 'adult' aspects of the character brief (computer expert etc) 
never seemed to connect with the actual character portrayed in Bonnie 
Langford's performance. And a very nice bottom, too, if you like them small 
and compact.

To put it another way, I find it much easier to think of Mel on the 
receiving end of a spanking than in an adult sexual relationship. One way of 
looking at this is to see her as a character who is less 'unfinished' than 
most. By 'unfinished' I mean that not every aspect of them is actually seen 
in the finished programme: you have a sense that they have a fuller human 
reality than is shown in the range of circumstances you get in a 'Who' 
story. (And sexuality is on the whole not in that range.) But Mel, who had a 
very full character brief, seems to be a WYSIWYG character who doesn't 
actually *have* those other areas. So it's easy to transfer her into that 
simpler world where companions' misdeeds are inevitably and inexorably 
followed by sound spankings.

And so to Mel's TV debut. We begin, as the story does, with the Doctor 
puffing away to music on that exercise bike... 'Ninety-eight, ninety-nine, 
one hundred!' counts out Mel. 'All right, Doctor, you can stop now. We'll 
soon have that all excess flab off you.' The Doctor's outraged at her cheek: 
'Excess flab! Put the tape back on, Mel, and come here. I'm going to 
exercise my right arm now...' He then puts her across his knee, turns the 
tape back on, and spanks her to music: 'One,' 'Ow!' 'Two,' 'Ouch!' 'Three,' 
'Owwww!' On the bike he had to go to 100, so he duly counts out 100 smacks 
before letting her up. All good exercise for his right arm, he says. 'Not so 
good for my rear, Doctor,' replies a rueful Mel.

Like I said, with Mel it's almost *too* easy. But when I discussed this 
story with Rutan a few years back, he challenged me to work in two other 
spanking scenes, for the two main female guest stars, Janet and Professor 
Lasky.

A spanking for Janet is certainly a necessary feature of a Spanking 
Adventures version of the story. The best opportunity comes as a result of 
her being under suspicion. Let's suppose that she *did* take Mel's recording 
of the whispering Vervoids from the gym, and Mel finds it when she searches 
her cabin. When the Doctor confronts her, it emerges that she only took it 
in the belief that it contained dance music for a workout, and put it on one 
side when she discovered it didn't. The Doctor accepts that she is innocent, 
but cannot accept that she didn't bother telling anyone about the tape - 
which, after all, is a recording of alien beings plotting the destruction of 
humanity. Janet realizes that her actions have been very foolish and 
dangerous, and she begs the Doctor not to report her to the Commodore. That 
is the least of her worries, he tells her, and takes her across his knee. 
There follows a sound spanking on pink panties. Five minutes later, Janet 
and the Doctor emerge from her cabin, she dabbing at her eyes and 
straightening her uniform, ready to go about her duties - which fortunately 
do not require her to sit down for the next few hours.

A spanking for Professor Lasky is a trickier one. Let's leave her to the end 
of the story, and have the Doctor castigate her for the irresponsibility of 
her experiments. Lasky is not impressed by his arguments, so Mel whispers a 
suggestion to him and hands him a tape. Exercise music... the perfect 
accompaniment to a good spanking. This time Mel does the counting. As Lasky 
lies howling across the Doctor's knee, the picture freezes, his hand in 
mid-air. 'That's not what happened at all,' says the Doctor, and glares 
accusingly at the Valeyard. 'Madame Inquisitor, I respectfully submit that 
the Matrix's evidence has been tampered with *again*.'

The reason for this is that Lasky's actions are really too serious to be 
punished with a spanking: she is guilty of calculated irresponsibility 
rather than immature foolishness. The faking of the evidence lets us have it 
both ways - a spanking and plausibility. Both of which are important!
