From: Doug A. Scott To: Sandwank mailing list Subject: [sadwank] The E-Space Trilogy: A Sadwanker's View Date: Thursday, December 17, 1998 23:49 From: "Doug A. Scott" Well, after reformatting my entire Doctor Who timeline, I have resumed watching stories to add to it. As before, I'm going to try to review them here as I go, focusing on the (ahem) less-than-pure aspects of the show. Keep in mind, I'm a hetero male whose favourite fantasies generally involve multiple females, so my biases will probably shine through. I'm also going to be cross-posting these reviews to the scififantasies list I'm on, which has a similar world view to sanwank. Full Circle: The beginning of the E-Space stories doesn't really have a great deal for sadwankers in it beyond Romana and, even then, only in a general way. Her outfit is not particularly tittilating. And then, of course, there's Adric. 'Nuff said. (Well, not really. I just want to say that, while he's certainly not my favourite character, I don't hate him the way alot of fans do. He's just kind of... there... And from my personal sadwank view, he does absolutely nothing for me.) State of Decay: Part two of the trilogy had much more to work with. Romana looks fetching throughout, especially in the Victorian-style dress for the sacrifice scene. Then there's the lesbian overtones (or is that undertones - I never know) between Camilla and Romana. This seems to have become pretty standard for female vampires over the years (the Discontinuity Guide mentions one example which I completely fail to remember at this point). Warriors' Gate: Romana looks stunning in red in this one. And then there's the medieval-type serving wenches in the flashbacks to the Tharil empire. Yum! All sadwankness aside, though, this is a wonderful story. I hadn't watched it in quite a while and forgotten just how good it is. Beautiful dialogue. (Adric: "Will she [Romana] be all right?" Doctor: "All right? She'll be *superb.*") ----------------------------------------------------------------- Doug A Scott Second-in-Command, Joxer Shields Member of the Gabrielle & Joxer Romantics Society Member of Joxer Enthusiasts Supporting Sapphic Subtext (JESSS) Visit the Doctor Who Chronology at: http://www.islandnet.com/~dascott/intro.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from this mailing list, or to change your subscription to digest, go to the ONElist web site, at http://www.onelist.com and select the User Center link from the menu bar on the left.
