Not at conventions, I mean, but in the theatre. (I suppose it's mainly a question for UK-based sadwankers.) The mentions of Katy's stage appearances in the Penthouse interview made me think about some of the interesting things I've seen over the years. I've told you all before about highlights like seeing Lalla Ward getting spanked and Janet Fielding flashing her knickers at the audience in a panto. Here are some other reminiscensces... Deborah Watling appeared in a farce called Run for Your Wife, and one of her costumes was a Wonder Woman outfit. Don't asky why, I can't remember, but I do remember being absolutely transfixed by the sight of her star-spangled bottom! The playbill had a caricature of Debbie in the costume (front view), which I may scan one day for the BBS. In the late '80s Wendy Padbury also appeared in a farce (I think there are going to be a lot of farces in this post!) called No Sex Please, We're British. This is a very famous one (about a consignment of porn which is delivered to the wrong person by mistake), and one scene required Wendy's character to appear in an open dressing gown with her underwear visible. Interesting thing, this: in the programme there was a photograph of Wendy in silky French knickers, but in the performance I saw she was wearing a white bra and pale blue bikini style panties... If I could have afforded it I think I would have become a groupie and gone every night, just to see what other changes of undies she had! (And before anyone asks, no, I really regret that I don't have a copy of the programme, which is a long story in itself!) Another farce, another companion. Long, long ago (must have been late '70s) I saw Katy Manning in a 1920s show. She played a vampish actress and in one scene appeared in black silk pyjamas. Not as exciting as Wendy in her knickers, perhaps, but the pyjama top wasn't over-long and the trousers were nice and clingy across a mostly uncovered seat. I do remember thinking that Katy was a lot broader in the beam than I expected, but that might just have been the cut of the pyjamas. Round about 1980, I think, I saw Louise Jameson in a Shakespeare comedy (don't know which one) with an updated setting. She played a bit of a spitfire and Maurice Roeves was her lover (he was Stotz in the Caves of Androzani). My sadwank antennae started twitching when she came out with some washing and started hanging out her knickers to dry. (They were red...) Unfortunately we never got to see her wearing said garments, but there was a nice bit where Maurice hoisted her up over his shoulder and carried her off the stage, resoundingly slapping her on the bottom with his free hand as he went. Not quite a conventional spanking scene, but probably the nearest we'd ever get from an actress of Louise's strong feminist views! (I'm always intrigued by the fact that Lalla allowed herself to be spanked in that revival I mentioned, but then she doesn't like political correctness, does she?) A few years after the panto, I saw Janet Fielding again in an odd little series of playlets about adultery. Two of them had sadwank moments. First she stripped off her blouse and appeared in a lacy beige bra, and remember Janet is one of the few companions with large breasts, so there was a lot to see. And then she had a sunbathing scene on a lounger. Not, alas, in a bikini or a state of undress, but she did pull her skirt up to her thighs and start applying the sun lotion. Her knickers might have been visible but my seat in the theatre was at completely the wrong angle. Curses! And finally there was Kate O'Mara in Kiss Me Kate. Which was a big disappointment, though for me it was more than made up for by the 'Too Darn Hot' routine with soubrettes wandering around in white panties. As you probably all know, Kiss Me Kate is about a feuding couple who are appearing in a production of The Taming of the Shrew, and the pivotal moment of the plot comes when the Shrew Kate (played by our Rani Kate!) gets a good spanking in full view of the audience. But oh no, not in these politically correct days she doesn't! In this production you just about got to see her beau put her across his knee before they brought down the curtain, and it all happened (silently) out of our sight. So Kate O'Mara remained safely unspanked in the show (which is more than you can say about her private life, so I've heard). Boo! Hey, I've got an idea: why don't we try and get someone to do a revival starring Lalla Ward? (And maybe Tom Baker could play the other half of the duo...) Well, those are the sadwank stage moments I've seen. (I know about a few more in shows I sadly missed, he said teasingly...) Anyone else got any similar memories to share?
